Onzole River Project
Trip dates: March 15-23, 2025 Team size: 4-12 Cost: $4,000 (fundraising strongly encouraged, we will provide training) Orientation: TBD Application deadline: December 15, 2024 |
The Onzole River Project (ORP) was Founded by Nikki Horne to advocate for, work with and invest in communities of people who have experienced marginalization on multiple levels for generations. The work of the ORP focuses on developing a range of diverse education initiatives, both formal and informal, in partnership with community members to help people discover who they are, their innate value and dream of a better future, while acquiring the skills to actually achieve it.
In 2013 Carlos Vieira joined the Canadian Navigators to work within the Onzole communities as a field worker with the ORP alongside Nikki Horne. In 2018, the Canadian Navigators took ownership of the project, under the leadership of Carlos as the new ORP Director.
Today, the work of the ORP combines investing in peoples’ education while being faithfully present and journeying with them in faith, which has proven to be a powerful catalyst for meaningful and sustained change. Over the past 10 years, Navigator staff have been faithfully present in these communities, helping the people address their specific economic and social challenges while guiding them to experience a deep, ongoing connection with Jesus.
We believe God has special place in his heart for the marginalized and that addressing issues of poverty, corruption and injustice is part of our biblical mandate.
Along with our strong belief in the dignity, value and unique gifting of every person, we’ve combined these foundational beliefs into our engagement with the Onzole River communities and we have seen God move in powerful ways.

Join the Navigators de Puerto Rico in Aguadilla for a week of evangelism among university students and a taste of island life. Come alongside and support the pioneering work to establish disciplemaking ministries in the surrounding Aguadilla area. Experience the rich, colorful, and diverse culture of Puerto Rico, and play a part in the gospel moving from Puerto Rico, to the Caribbean, to the world!
Expect to be challenged, stretched, and exposed to God’s work among and God’s heart for this highly bilingual culture. You will have the opportunity to meet, connect with, and learn from local believers. You will have the opportunity to initiate gospel conversations with students, invite them to read and study the Bible, and connect them with the local staff team for further follow-up.
We are looking for mature students who are excited to initiate spiritual conversations and willing to be stretched and challenged. You may also have opportunities to encourage believing students in their faith by training and teaching discipleship skills. Flexibility will be key as plans often change in this easygoing culture. Although speaking Spanish is not required, learning basic phrases will be expected. Cultural surprises, language barriers, and working on a team are ways God will stretch you to trust Him more deeply. Come be a part of the Great Commission in Puerto Rico!

You will be pioneering an exciting new campus ministry at a large university. Enrolling as language students, you will actually learn the local language and have daily opportunities to practice with the new friends you are meeting. As Americans, you will be magnets to curious Asian students who want to have an American friend and practice speaking English. Through meals, sports, and just hanging out, you will have natural opportunities to share life-on-life with students and build meaningful relationships.
Although this is a closed country to the gospel, our local staff will train you in safe and creative ways to share your faith with your new friends. At the conclusion of your trip, our staff will continue to invest in these students’ lives – taking them further in their walk toward knowing Christ.
You’ll also have opportunities to explore this fascinating country and its rich history and culture.
There has been an incredible heritage between summer short-term trips and campus ministry in this Asian country! Unbelieving freshmen students who heard about Jesus for the first time through our teams are now young adults who are leaders in the country’s national ministry. Come with us and continue this heritage. You’ll learn to depend on God in new and deeper ways… and watch Him do amazing things in this closed country!

Step out of your comfort zone and come live among unreached people in the midst of a challenging and diverse culture. You will experience what Business as Missions looks like as you interact with local people. Our goal is for growth in both yourself and in the lives of the local people.
People here are searching for answers to life’s deepest questions. You’ll have opportunities to hear them talk of darkness, hopelessness, shame, fear, poverty, conflict, and oppression. We will help you understand these issues through the context of this culture, and coach you on appropriate ways to respond. And then we encourage you to step out into the culture and build relationships with locals on the street and host families. The people are so open to discussing their faith with you, and you will have opportunities share about your faith as well.
There will also be planned times for exploring some of the cultural and historical sites of this amazing country.
If you are adventurous and ready to grow in your faith and your trust in God, we invite you to come alongside us for an unforgettable experience!

Join us this summer and invest your life into living and discipling in Namibia. You will spend most of your time with college students on campuses with established ministries. You will not only get to share the Gospel by initiating conversations and building relationships, but you will also have opportunities to disciple and encourage young believers.
We are looking for highly self-motivated and outgoing students who love taking initiative in conversations and building new friendships. Students’ openness to spiritual conversations will provide plenty of opportunities to share your life, values, and faith.
Your short-term missions trip schedule will include team devotionals, Bible study, and planning for ministry outreach events. Along with taking initiative in building relationships with students, you will also have opportunities to lead workshops at conferences and train young believers in basic discipleship tools.
Allow God to deepen your dependence on Jesus and grow your character as you and your team face challenges such as cultural differences, homesickness, and a fast-paced, constantly changing lifestyle. If you are flexible, willing to learn, and open to stretching your comfort zone, then this trip may be right for you.
Immerse yourself into a whole new world, and experience what it means to worship God through the lens of a different culture. Develop a deeper perspective of how the Gospel moves among the nations.
Join us and expect your heart to grow big in love for the lost!

We have designed the content of this overseas summer program around one theme: Followers of Jesus living and discipling among the lost. During this summer, you will be stretched by extensive Bible study with the short-term team and local staff, Biblical-themed discussion nights with students, and living among and impacting Japanese.
You will serve alongside the collegiate team in Tokyo, the heart of Japan. In the BEST Club (our version of The Navigators in Japan), you will become a part of our student community. BEST stands for Bible, English, Sports, Travel, and in Tokyo, discussing the Bible and practicing spoken English are the most popular aspects of our club. Through this summer mission trip, you will hang out and make friends with students, learning just as much about God’s love from them as they will learn from you.
The team in Tokyo has many years of experience working with cross-cultural laborers and is excited to advance God’s kingdom together. Joining us would give you many opportunities to pray and learn alongside the team here. This summer will consist of experiences that challenge your worldview, how you view yourself, and God’s mission to the world. The team here is at the forefront of mission work in Tokyo’s Universities to make God known among the Japanese.
In Japan, less than 1% believe in Jesus Christ. Most people have never had the opportunity to read the Bible or meet a Christian. This is hard work and not for those who want an easy summer. But those who join us will get to have conversations that point towards Jesus with many who don’t know Him, have life-changing experiences, and a heart more aligned with God’s gospel to the nations. Come alongside us this summer and join in on what God has for you and for the world.
A normal week will include:
